"Little nobleman." Fatima Santos tells me that this is a traditional biscuit (US: cookie), some saying it goes back a few centuries to the times when Braga was an important Sanctuary and an obligatory stop for the Pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela in Galicia. It is an all year round tea-time biscuit.

"Faithful friend". A name in Brazil for cod, usually salted and dried but may also be fresh. Much eaten during Lent, it must be soaked for 24 hours or more before use, with occasional changes of water. It can often be purchased ready soaked on Fridays.
