Tufo in Avellino is a DOC zone in Campania producing refined white wines from a clone of Greco grapes. The transformation of water to wine at the Marriage of Cana is said to have been emulated by San Guglielmo of Vercelli with Greco di Tufo being the result, though records of the existence of this wine pre-date this by a long time. The Greco variety of grape was originally cultivated on the slopes of Vesuvius, where it was given the name Lacryma Christi. It was later planted in the province of Avellino, where it was given the denomination Greco di Tufa.
