Blackcurrant. Many references say that this is a blackcurrant, though it looks to be as though it could be arbutus, the fruit of the strawberry tree.
The Spanish oyster plant or thistle, sometimes known as the common golden thistle, provides roots which may be boiled, or eaten with lamb. A scraggy, short-lived perennial, generally harvested in the wild rather than cultivated, it is popular in places like Spain and Greece in the lamb stews of spring. It is also used in salads, soups and with scrambled eggs in Andalusia.
