Honey fungus. They should always be well cooked.
The noble rot. The fungus which develops on grapes in certain areas, causing them to shrivel and wither, concentrating the sugar and flavour. Grapes so infected produce a very fine, and expensive, wines such as Sauternes.
Bean sprouts produced from soya beans (US: soybeans).
Air potato. An intrusive, but one of the most widely consumed varieties of yam cultivated in the Pacific Islands, Asia and West Africa. Uncultivated versions may be bitter and even poisonous (as in Florida).
The pressed roe of mullets, or sometimes tuna, cut into slices and marinated in oil and lemon with pepper and chopped onions.
Blue whiting. This fish can develop a sour taste so it is less frequently eaten and is usually used for fish meal.
