"Cucumbers in the Greek style." Cucumbers cut into chunks and poached in light broth, chilled and served iced.
"Cucumbers in the Swedish style." Cucumber cut lengthways, hollowed out and filled with herring salad.
"Cucumbers in Danish style." Cucumbers thickly cut and shaped like little boats, garnished with salpicon of smoked salmon, diced marinated herrings and hard boiled eggs, topped with a little grated horseradish.

A medium-sized, pale green dessert pear with melting, juicy flesh and good flavour. They turn yellow as they riopen, sometimes developing a pink flush. A cross between Conference and Doyenne du Comice, this pear was raised in 1977 at East Malling and is a reliable, heavy-cropping variety which is self-fertile. It keeps well.
