A salad which includes salt cod and tuna and has a spicy dressing. It is sometimes served with slices of tortilla.
Atherine, Mediterranean silverside or sandsmelt. A common Mediterranean marine fish, usually deep-fried, it is a small, silvery fish similar to the argentine. When tiny it is treated in the same way as whitebait. This fish grows up to 15 cm.
Queen scallop or quin. These are smaller and sweeter than pilgrim or great scallops and fished in deeper waters. They are more difficult to come by but, like the pilgrims, have white meats and red corals.
Wreckfish or stone bass, a type of grouper cooked like wrasse and used in soups or cut into steaks or filleted. It may grow as large as 2 m (6 ft) in length and it is found in both the Mediterranean and throughout the Atlantic. Wreckfish are inclined to follow bits of flotsam and jetsam floating on the surface of the sea.
A name in the Balearic Islands for flat lobster. A variety of lobster with a flat tail, shaped somewhat like a slipper, which is the edible part. It makes a noise like a cricket. The Mediterranean slipper lobster is generally used for flavouring soups as it does not carry much meat.
