"Trouser legs." Folded over pizza dough, like fried ravioli, with a filling popular in Campania, Puglia, Basilicata and Tuscany and shaped like a half moon. The filling might be ham and cheese, or onions, olives, anchovies, capers and cheese. In Puglia calzoni are smaller and may be either baked or fried. May also have a sweet filling. The version in Basilicata is often sweeteded with chocolate and may be made with chickpea flour ((US: garbanzo bean). Associated with the Feast of San Antonio Abate on 17th January.
