Stuffed vegetables. This word appears from Greece, where it generally refers to stuffed vine leaves, to Bangladesh with similar meanings.
Minced (US: ground) lamb mixed with spices and cooked on a vertical rotisserie. Pieces are carved off it and served in pitta bread.
"Carpenter." John Dory. A high quality, plump, flattish fish with a golden sheen, with an ugly but amiable face. It was first associated with Zeus, then with St Peter, as evidenced by the ‘finger marks’ left by him when he picked it up to remove a coin from its mouth to pay some taxes. It is also plaice.
Bread. Catherine and Michael Holyclarke introduced this word into our vocabulary by using "ekmek" to describe money, "bread" in the American sense. So now we are always looking for ways to get some ekmek.
