A dialect name for the boletus, cep or porcino mushroom, often used in dried form in stews and stocks.
A cocktail consisting of 22 ml (¾ fl oz) Campari, 22 ml (¾ fl oz) Italian sweet vermouth, soda or sparkling water to taste, 1 slice orange or lemon. Stir well in an Old Fashioned glass loaded with ice cubes. Garnish with an orange slice. The French version contains red wine. It also describes a French vermouth.
"Blanketed" This refers to foods which are coated with another ingredient, such as a sauce. The nearest equivalent is probably "napped".
"Wrapping." A mixture of garlic, basil and red pepper with olive oil used for dressing foods, particularly fish, in Sicily.
"Little loves." Tiny specks of pasta cooked in soups. These are usually served to the infirm and the young as they are very easily digestible.
