Caffeine. An alkaloid present in coffee, tea and cola nuts. This is a stimulant with diuretic properties. Taken in excess it can be toxic and has addictive qualities.

Instant coffee

Milky coffee. Espresso with hot milk, often served at breakfast time. A sort of milk cappuccino.

"Long coffee." Espresso coffee with a little added water. If the water is cold it is called caffè lungo tiepido.

Espresso coffee with a little added cold water.

"Stained coffee." Milk, either warm or cold, with just a little drop of hot espresso coffee.

Black coffee

"Tight coffee. Espresso coffee made with less water, concentrating the flavour still further.
