Herrings which are grilled or fried, pickled in a boiled vinegar marinade and served cold. Alternatively this describes soused herrings dipped in flour and fried in oil.
Bratwurst is a pale smoked sausage with from finely minced (US: ground) pork or veal, sage and spices including mace, nutmeg and ginger. It is similar in appearance to a British pork sausage. It can be either gently grilled or fried and is for same day consumption.
