"Crescent." Coral trout. A deep coral pink grouper which makes for good eating. The flesh is sweet, firm and, surprisingly, milky white, like a cross between sea bass and turbot.
"Crescent." A crescent-shaped light, flaky yeast pastry for breakfast. The dough is cut into a triangle, buttered and folded four times and then formed to create the crescent shape. In 1686 the bakers of Budapest heard the Turks tunnelling into the city, presumably because they started work earlier in the day than anyone else. They sounded the alarm. The grateful city gave them the privilege of making croissants, whose shape comes from the emblem on the Ottoman flag.

A small ball of minced (US: ground) meat which differs from a croquette in that a croquette is dipped in egg and breadcrumbs rather than batter or caul fat. They are similar to croquettes in many other respects. French cromesquis are coated in batter. Polish cromesquis are wrapped in a very fine pancake and then dipped in batter. Russian cromesquis are wrapped in caul fat. All are then deep-fried. Originates in Russia.

Diced hard boiled eggs, mushrooms and truffles bound with Allemande sauce, cooled and shaped into small balls, dipped in batter and deep-fried. They are served with tomato sauce.
