Truffle. Truffles may be found growing amongst the roots of oak or elm trees and are harvested between November and March, often with the help of a dog specially trained for the purpose. In fact, a well-trained dog has become such a desirable commodity that they may be kidnapped - or even killed to prevent their owner from having too much success in identifying good sites. Traditionally sows hunted them down but were inclined to eat them once they had found them. They are irregular in shape and may be anything from the size of a marble to a large fist.
