A perfect tomato for growing on patios as it was bred for pots and window boxes. It has a dwarf compact habit and the medium-sized fruit ripen very early.
Lake trout. A freshwater char living mainly in lakes in northern North America. As in Europe, this char is not a common fish. Lake trout were fished commercially in the Great Lakes until lampreys, overharvest and pollution severely reduced the stocks. Commercial fisheries still exist in some areas of the Great Lakes and smaller lakes in northern Canada.
An old variety of large, greenish-yellow English cooking apple, not readily available. It cooks to a pale purée. It was received from J Scott Nursery in Somerset but may be an apple which had arrived from Scotland in the 19th Century. This late-season variety is harvested from early October in South-East England and is at is best from October to December.
