The strawberry is a soft fruit, not a berry, which grows on low growing plants, producing white flowers before the delicious red, almost conical fruit. Famously part of Wimbledon fortnight, served with cream.

A red grouper with spots and a blue line along its jaw. It is good to eat and gets its name from the dotting which makes it look like a strawberry. They may be found weighing up to 2½ kilos (5 lb). It is found in reefs and feeds on fish, squid, crabs, and shrimp which make its own flavour high quality.
Strawberry ice cream is one of the classics. The earliest reference to ice cream given by the Oxford English Dictionary is from 1744. "Among the rarities..was some fine ice cream, which, with the strawberries and milk, eat most deliciously."
Strawberry jelly is made with gelatine melted and mixed with the juice of strawberries, concentrated as much as possiblem before being set in a mould.
