Rock pigeon. Rock pigeons breed in caves on steep cliffs, mainly on the coast but sometimes in the mountains. The city pigeons which are so ubiquitous are escapees which were originally kept in pigeon houses for meat, but then bred so successfully that they are now a pest.
A roux. A base for sauces of combination of fat or oil and flour, gently cooked and then mixed with stock or milk or whatever is required for the sauce, brought to the boil and simmered.
Rose hip. Used in making scented preserves, jellies and syrups.
