Banana. Plantain. The long, usually yellow fruit of a tropical tree, sometimes red or green, which grows in bunches. It has sweet dense flesh which discolours quickly.
"Devil's plate." This describes a dish which contains partridge stewed with pigeon, black pudding (US: blood sausage)., snails, meatballs and wild mushrooms.

Argentine. A small marine fish with silvery scales similar to a sardine or a smelt. It is usually grilled or fried.
Rascasse. Red scorpion fish. A fish similar to a gurnard, mainly red or orange in colour, with a huge, ugly head and poisonous spiny dorsal fins. The large scaly head is inedible. However, this well-flavoured fish is most famous as an indispensable ingredient of bouillabaisse. It is found in deep waters throughout the Mediterranean and as far north as Brittany. Large fish may be baked, providing firm white flesh.
