Butterhead, or round lettuce is a type of soft, buttery lettuce with a small, slightly loose head but with good flavour. The leaves are easily broken or bruised. The two most popular varieties are Bibb or Limestone and Boston lettuce. In many languages the word for lettuce defaults to this type of lettuce and may also refer to any green salad made with leaves.
