Linguine. Narrow, flat pasta noodles, but long like spaghetti, from southern Italy. Linguine is often served with sea food, particularly clams, and is the traditional accompaniment for pesto. The equivalent pasta in the north is trenette.
Sago. It is made from the viscous sap of a tall palm tree. It is collected in the same way as rubber, by making an incision in the trunk.
A Ligurian feast to celebrate the bounty of nature, when harvests are good and produce is abundant. Villages invite people from nearby villages to share the harvest, whatever it may be, and, I suspect, show off a little too.
A robust, deep ruby red wine from Montefalco in Umbria made from Sangiovese grapes which have been partly dried, intensifying the sugars. There is also a Sagrantino di Montefalco Passito which is a sweet, dessert wine, also red (DOC).
