Wallago. A catfish of the family of sheatfishes, the Siluridae. It can reach 240 cm (8 ft) in length and is found from Bangladesh to Vietnam and Afghanistan.
The boalla is a type of carp well known in the Himalayas up as far as Sikkim and Assam where they grow to almost a meter in length. They come down the tributaries to spawn in the Mekong in July and August, when they are vulnerable to fisherman.
A fruit which grows in clusters on a stem. It is similar in appearance to longan, having a yellow to beige skin which can be taken off in the same way as the skin of the lychee. Inside there is white flesh, less luminous than that of the lychee, in four segments, each containing a stone. The flesh is sucked off the stone and has a texture and flavour slightly reminiscent of a custard apple.

Bombay duck. Machchi means fish. A small fish native to Bombay, this is bommaloe macchi, the name of which the British found difficult to pronounce, hence "Bombay duck". It is dried and salted, impregnated with asafoetida and made into a crispy deep-fried fish starter or used as an accompaniment to curry. It is also used to flavour other dishes.

A sweet made by passing batter through a sieve into hot oil. The resulting strings are then sometimes pressed into a ball and served in hot syrup.
