Baumküchen

A cylindrical, layered cake baked on a spit for Christmas. At regular intervals during the cooking an additional layer of batter is painted on until up to 14 layers have been added. When cool it is decorated with chocolate fondant icing to look like bark so that it resembles a tree trunk.

A modern, semisoft blue cheese with a spicy flavour made in southern Germany from pasteurised cow’s milk. It has a soft, white, penicillin rind and a supple, creamy ivory paste spattered with blue mould. In fact the name of the best known brand, Cambazola, is derived from Camembert/Gorgonzola.
