/ee-SOHN-tsoh/
[Furlan]

A DOC region in the eastern part of the Grave of Friuli, around the River Isonzo, making 17 different wines with Merlot, Tocai Friulano, Pinot Bianco and Grigio, Verduzzo and Cabernet grapes. The region has a long history of wine-making with records as far back as 237 AD. In that year the Emperor Maximinian used empty wine barrels to make a sort of pontoon bridge over the River Isonzo after the original bridge was destroyed by the people of Aquileia.
