A small enclave producing only white wines in Gard in eastern Languedoc. The wine, production of which is dominated by the Bellegarde co-operative, is made entirely from the Clairette grape and should be drunk as young as possible. (AC).
The Clairette du Languedoc appellation produces wines made exclusively from the Clairette grape. A wide variety of different wine styles comes from this sub-appellation of the Coteaux du Languedoc.
"Japanese clam." This is the Manila clam, a variety of Pacific clam with a brown and white shell. It is about 6 cm (2") across. In the north of Spain this imported carpet-shell from the orient is being cultivated.
