Romanian Spotted cattle

Baltana (or Baltata) Romaneasca, or Romanian Spotted cattle, have emerged since 1860 as a the result of a long crossing between Grey Romanian Cattle and Simmental bulls. They are the most numerous in Romania. They are hardy and sure-footed making them ideal for upland and Alpine regions. Although spotted and highly variable, they almost invariably have white faces.

Roman snail

A small, grey variety of snail - the Roman or vineyard snail. It is rather slow-growing, but thought to the tastiest of the snails though without quite the special qualites of the petit gris. Helix pomatia measure between 28 and 36 mm (around 1"-1½") while Helix aspersa are between 25-30 mm. The latter are the only snails which may be imported to Australia for purposes of farming for the table.

Roman Tufted goose

White, and with orange legs and beak, this is a small goose weighing between 10 and 12 pounds. Its distinguishing characteristic is the small tuft of feathers on its head. It is a very friendly, prolific and beautiful goose. In Barcelona a group of Roman Tufted geese is to be found at the Cathedral. Presently around six or so but, according to legend, 13 guarded the capital. This was to maintain one for each year of the life of St. Eulàlia, the patron saint of Barcelona, whose bones are thought to lie in the crypt.
