Arracacia root. Peruvian carrot. A starchy, tuberous, plant similar to potato, often ground to produce a flour similar to cassava. It is used widely throughout South America.
Physalis or cape gooseberry. Bitter-sweet, apricot-coloured berries enclosed in papery wraps.
A short variety of dark red to purple chilli tapering from wide shoulders.
The pestle puffball is a type of mushroom not generally considered to be edible but can be eaten when young. (If gathering mushrooms you must be absolutely certain what you have before you eat them as many are very poisonous.)
The nearest thing in the Americas to the brill. An important, firm, white-fleshed flatfish with good flavour.
