Most commonly a kernel is the inner edible seed or a nut, or a fruit stone. It may also bne a grain or seed, as of a cereal grass such as sweetcorn (US: corn), enclosed in a husk. It can also be the core, or most material central part of an obect – or truth!
Kerr's Pinks is a good floury variety of main crop potato, with rose pink skin suitable for most types of cooking - though not at its best in salads. It makes very good mashed potatoes and chips (US: fries) (1917).
An ancient, but not necessarily rare breed of Scottish sheep, bred traditionally on Scottish hills so that the meat has good flavour. The Blackface breed is the most numerous breed in Britain accounting for over three million ewes, representing 16% of the British pure-bred ewe flock. The vast majority are found in Scotland. They are versatile, adaptable and hardy. They are good milkers and produce low-fat meat.
Kestrel is a variety of potato which is a moist, good all-rounder, used for baking, boiling, mashing or roasting. (1992). It is also relatively slug resistant.
A variety of yellow apple which is good for both eating and cooking. It is thought to have been found on a rubbish heap at Gleaston Castle not far from Ulverston in Lancashire and was noted in 1793, having been introduced commercially by Mr J Saunders of Keswick. It cookes to a purée so is good for sauces. Early-season apple is harvested from mid-August in South-East England and may be stored until October.
