Guinea pepper is a spice from Africa sometimes used as a mild pepper substitute and with a flavour slightly reminiscent of cardamon. The pods are crushed and added whole to soups or stews, then removed before serving any food.
Guinea pigs are eaten in Chile and Peru and other parts of South America, often grilled. According to someone I know who has eaten it, "it's not very nice and very fatty".
