A lemon-shaped, red plum tomato produced on large spreading trusses on an indeterminate plant which grows well either indoors or in a protected place outdoors. The fruit is not prone to cracking.

Brittany is the anglicised name for Bretagne, a province covering the departments of Ille-et-Vilaine, Côtes-du-Nord, Finistère, Morbihan and Loire-Atlantique in north west France. It is noted for agneau de pré-salé, galettes and white haricot beans (US: navy beans), fish and apples, so cider, and potatoes.
A confection made by pouring caramelised sugar, usually with nuts, onto thin sheets to cool. The brittle mixture is then broken into irregular chunks. Praline is a more fine version.
Broad beans are beans which may be eaten either fresh or dried as butter beans. In their fresh form they are at their best from the end of May to early July, the pods should be pale green with a satiny bloom and feel soft and tender. They are thought to be the original bean and were first grown in North Africa. The beans are encased in a tough pod with a furry lining. When very young the pods can be cooked whole but they are usually shelled. When the beans are dried they acquire a creamy colour. They are known as fava beans and as English beans in the United States.
A deep rust-red spicy sauce used in Sichuan or Szechuan province that is both well rounded and salty in flavor. It is called Douban or Candou Jiang and its main ingredient is fermented broad beans (US: fava beans) with garlic, chilis, and spices and served in both hot and cold dishes or stir-fried with oil and served over rice or noodles. The sauce has both spicy and mild versions.
