Garfish. A striking, beaked, marine fish up to 60 cm (2 ft) long, with a backbone which turns bright green on cooking and a delicious flavour, found on most European coasts.
Common mallow, cooked in the same way as Jew's mallow, of which young leaves are boiled, often with rabbit or chicken or other meats in a soup flavoured with garlic and coriander (US: cilantro).
Considered to be almost the national dish of Egypt, this may be either a dish of red lentils cooked with rice and eaten with raw onion and dried fish or of red and black lentils cooked with rice and noodles.
