An Indian Ocean atherine which has found its way into the Mediterranean through the Suez Canal. A marine fish, usually deep-fried, it is a small, silvery fish similar to the argentine. When tiny it is treated in the same way as whitebait. This fish grows up to 18 cm.

Bread. Generally speaking this is a flat, unleavened bread made with wholemeal flour and forming itself into a pocket as it cooks,making it ideal for holding other foods. There is some ingredient or something about the method of cooking that seems to make it chewy. If it is not used, it may either be kept in the freezer and/or rebaked making it into a hard crisp bread, also excellent.
