Lentils, generally husked and split. It also applies to the dishes commonly made with them. They do not need soaking.

A wide-mouthed, deep, flat-bottomed pot made from tinned brass. It has a well-fitting cover but no handles. It is used for 'sealed pot' curries or dum where dough is used to create a seal between the pot and the lid, heating milk, boiling water, cooking rice and generally for any cooking over flame.
Ticto barb or twospot barb. May also be the pool barb. A freshwater or brackish water fish related to the minnow, growing no longer than 10 cm (4") . It is found in the Mekong, Irawaddy and other rivers of Nepal, India, Pakistan, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Sri Lanka. It is mainly an aquarium fish but is eaten in Bangladesh.
