Verduzzo

/vehr-DOOTS-tsoh/
[Italian]

A variety of wine grape. Verduzzo, like Refosco, is native to Friuli. It is ancient vine that was once widely grown, though its use has now declined. There are two varieties of Verduzzo: Verduzzo, and Verduzzo giallo or Verduzzo di Ramandolo. Verduzzo verde is cultivated in the plains and gives a dry wine, while Verduzzo giallo grows in the hills and produces a semi-sweet, dessert wine. Both types are yellowish to green.
