I was interested to learn that up to 20 species of pine produce edible pine nuts or seeds. In fact even more do, but the size of the seed renders it pointless to harvest them - and we have to leave something for the squirrels and birds! When I lived in Greece we used to shoot the pine cones out of the trees with an air gun to get the nuts.
