Nonpareil apple

[French]

An ancient variety of greenish, russeted eating apple recorded in 1696 in London but pre-dating this and of French origin, thought to have been introduced in 16th Century during the reign of one of the Tudor queens, Elizabeth or Mary. This late-season variety is harvested from mid- or late October in South-East England and is at is best from December to January.
