Marathon bars were developed by Forrest Mars who also invented the Mars bar. They were called Marathon bars in the UK and Snickers in the United States. In 1992 the Marathon was changed to the Snickers Bar in the UK, leading to great dismay. Frank Mars, the father of Forrest Mars, had patented the Milky Way in the United States. Forrest Mars also invented Maltesers and M&Ms.
