Malling Kent apple

[English]

A name for Kent, a variety of eating apple raised at East Malling Research Station by HM Tydeman in 1947 as a cross between Cox's Orange Pippin and Jonathan. It was given the name 'Kent' much later in 1974. It has a tough skin and the flavour mellows on storage. This late-season variety is harvested from mid-October in South-East England and is at its best from November to February.
