ເຂົ້າຫນຽວ(kao niaw)

[Lao]

Sticky rice. Ubiquitous in Laos and eaten at most meals, clumped together in the fingers, and served in the basket in which it has been steamed.

The polite way to eat sticky rice, which should stick to itself, not to your fingers, is to take a small fistful of rice from the communal basket and break off small portions of that for gathering up the sauce or foods with which you are eating it.
