honey

[English]

Honey bees visit about two million flowers to make one pound of honey. An average hive of 40-45,000 bees produces 20-30 lb of honey to survive the winter as they primarily make this for them to eat, rather than us. However, given more space they will make a surplus and this is how sufficient honey is produced to feed the needs of the public. Honey 3,000 years old was found in one of the tombs of the pharaohs.

If you plant borage near a hive the bees will make runny honey.

Tip: If honey has crystallised in a jar, warm it up a little - either very briefly in a microwave or by placing it in a bowl of hot water- until it melts.
