A very highly regarded dessert pear, it is large and roundish. Skin is yellow with a greenish tinge, speckled and russeted, sometimes with a red blush. Flesh is soft, creamy white, very juicy, fragrant and full-flavoured. Best eaten as a raw dessert pear and can be picked from mid-October. It was introduced to England from France in Victorian times.
