bæklampret

[Danish]

Lamprey. It is an eel-like migratory fish usually caught in rivers. It spends the first, larval, stage of its life buried in the mud at the bottom of certain rivers, descending to the sea where it sucks the blood of fish in a particularly vicious way, and usually causing their death. Subsequently it returns to the river of its birth to spawn. This is the brook lamprey.
