Small, oblong biscuits (US: cookies) made with butter and sugar and a few bitter almonds and decorated with finely chopped almonds.
Morello cherries. Large, near black, sour cherries used in cooking and in making jams (US: jellies) and syrups. They are often preserved in wine or syrup for serving as a condiment or dessert sauce.
"Butter leaves." Crisp sweet biscuits (US: cookies) cut into leaf shape and decorated with chopped almonds.
Woodcock. It is a very fine, pigeon-sized, game bird which inhabits boggy woodland and which is usually cooked undrawn, with only the gizzard removed. The trail, or entrails, are considered a great delicacy. A woodcock constitutes one portion. They are often served stuffed with their own gizzards or with the gizzards mashed for the sauce.
