Wine vinegar

Vinaigrette. A salad dressing made from oil and vinegar seasoned with salt and pepper, sometimes with a little additional mustard, and sugar.

Cream of tartar

A small, grey variety of snail - the Roman or vineyard snail. It is rather slow-growing, but thought to the tastiest of the snails though without quite the special qualites of the petit gris. Helix pomatia measure between 28 and 36 mm (around 1"-1½") while Helix aspersa are between 25-30 mm.

Currants, red, white and black.

"Danish slices." Danish pastries made by rolling the dough, spreading it with a marzipan filling, folding the dough into three lengthwise. It is then baked and iced.

"Viipuri rings." A speciality of Karelia. Sweet bread dough is flavoured with nutmeg and cardamom. It is shaped by rolling the dough and then forming it into a shape simlar to a pretzel. Viipuri is a city which is now in Russia.
