The Spanish cooking oil scandal is thought to have started on 1 May 1981. Poisoned cooking oil was thought to have eventually caused the deaths of around 300 people of the 20,000 or so affected by the problem.

Spanish or rocambole garlic is a hardneck variety having a bulb with a coiling flower stalk and used for seasoning.
A slightly ovoid-shaped tropical fruit with thick green skin and rather gummy yellowish or pinkish flesh. It contains either one or two seeds and its flavour is said to be similar to that of grapes.
