A cylindrical loaf baked in a special ridged tin so that it is marked, like a caterpillar with short segments, all down its length for ease of slicing.
Two types of most commercially grown kinds of raspberry are available, the summer-bearing wild type that produces an abundance of fruit on second-year canes (floricanes) within a relatively short period in mid-summer, and double- or "ever"-bearing plants, which also bear some fruit on first-year canes (primocanes) in the late summer and fall, as well as the summer crop on second-year canes. They can be invasive if not kept in check.
Judas's ear fungus, often found dried. Dried or fresh they should not be fried, as they explode, but stewed with other ingredients.
Grenadier or rat-tail; a long, tapering, ash grey marine fish found up to 90 cm (36") long, deep in the Atlantic. Not a very attractive fish and difficult to skin and fillet, so good in soups.
A variety of yellow eating apple flushed with pinkish red, developed in Somerset in England. They are harvested from September and October.
