Ptarmigan. For much of the year the ptarmigan is simlar to the red or willow grouse, with a touch of white on the wings. In winter both sexes become pure white (as does the willow grouse). However, its habitat is quite different as it prefers barren, stony mountain slopes, usually higher up than the willow grouse.

Pike. A large, freshwater fish with multiple small bones.

Pike-perch or zander. It is a river fish with delicate flavour. They can be differentiated from the perch by the relatively large space between their dorsal fins and their elongate, fusiform body, which is never so steeply arched behind the head as it is in the Perch. The flesh is firm and white with a stronger flavour than cod. It was introduced into the United Kingdom in the 70's and is in danger of wiping out native species of fish.

Lumpfish. Lumpsucker. A marine fish with a green or grey humped back and knobbly skin. It grows to about 60 cm (2 ft) and is found in the North Atlantic and Baltic. The male is oily but can be poached and the female is caught for its roe.
