Indian plum or ber. A small red black berry which fruits during the monsoon. It is the sour version of narkel kul, which is used most often to make chutneys and pickles.
Mango fish, highly esteemed for food. It has several long, slender filaments below the pectoral fins. It appears in rivers, particularly the Ganges, at about the same time as the mango comes into fruit, around April to May, hence the name. Although it is also described as a strong flavoured sea fish usually dipped in besan and fried.
Ivy gourd. A small crunchy gourd reminiscent of a gherkin, green ripening to red, popular in the cuisines of India, Thailand, Indonesia and other South East Asian countries. The shoots and leaves can also be eaten.
