A name for the pequi. Native to Brazil, the pequi is a yellow, round fruit. Rooted in Brazilian culture, it is particularly popular with rice and chicken. But watch out. The pip contains many thorns and they are very difficult to remove if you get them in your tongue or mouth. Take the pulp of the fruit very carefully with your teeth but do not bite into the pip. If the colour of the flesh turns from yello to white, stop there. But there is another secret. Deep inside the pequi there is a delicious nut. To prepare, let the inner part of the pequi dry in the sun for two or more days and then fry it with a touch of salt.
