A fruit tree indigenous to the Amazon region, found frequently in its natural habitat. It produces berries with a mucilaginous, sweet-flavored pulp, ripening from September to November. These are eaten raw and the flavor resembles mangaba, with reminiscence of sapodilla. They are avaialble in the open markets of towns in the central Amazon region.
