محلب(mahalab)

[Arabic]

Mahlab. A spice made from the seeds of the Saint Lucie cherry cracked to extract the kernel which is then dried and crushed. It has a strong flavour so only a small amount is needed. It is used in cakes and biscuits, pastries and breads, giving a distinctive, sweet-sour, nutty flavour.
