Akvavit which has "crossed the line". This is particularly sought after akvavit which has been used as ballast in the hold of a ship and has crossed the Equator. Each bottle is marked with the name of the ship on which it travelled, and the date of the voyage. The rolling motion of the ships, the changes in temperature during the voyage and the salt breezes are all reputed to contribute to the characteristic softness of lineakvavit.
